It is getting increasingly difficult to refrain from hitting the mute button everytime a member of the GOP appears on my screen. I, a registered Independent who has spent a lifetime respecting views different from my own, have reached the limit of lies spouted by Trump and his sycophants. Donald Trump is a bitter man who foments hate in his words and his actions. It seems that many of his followers must be equally churlish or how would they not recognize the ugliness he propagates?
I wish I could assuage the feelings of neglect which so many of Trump’s followers may have experienced. Hate sprouts on abandoned or abused soil. My quarrel is not with those who hear Trump’s words and follow him because they think he echoes their own stifled cries. Mistakenly, they think he cares.
My quarrel is with those who know better. Representatives in Congress and the Senate who lie and stoke the same hate as Trump because in doing so they are able to hold onto power. It is obvious that these GOP representatives care little about their constituents or their country. They are intentionally lying. If they are not intentionally lying, then they are sorely unfit to serve in our government. Let me explain.
If they understood how our government operates, they would understand that Biden did not indict Trump. Jack Smith did not indict Trump. Jack Smith investigated Trump’s troublesome and dangerous behavior and gathered evidence. He then presented this evidence to a group of ordinary people who examined the gathered evidence and believed the facts set before them were credible— credible enough to go to trial. This Grand Jury indicted Donald Trump. This is our judicial system. This is how our country works. This is checks and balances.
Lindsay Graham knows this. Kevin McCarthy knows this. Marjorie Taylor Greene knows this. Every outspoken GOP representative knows this. If they do not, they do not understand how our government works. If they do, they are lying. Either way they are unfit to serve.
The former head of the DOJ, William Barr, claims to be shocked by the evidence outlined in the latest set of indictments. That surprises me. Is he trying to make up for his own lies concerning the Mueller report?
Despite what he spouts, Donald Trump is not a victim now nor was he ever. He‘s duped lots of people into believing he cares about our country. He is championed by a number of republicans whose only interest is holding onto power.
The true measure of humanity is found in kindness and a willingness to build rather than tear down. Mine is a small voice in the maelstrom but it’s the voice of one who loves her country— the voice of one who wishes her fellow Americans would wake up. Yes. Wake up. Who wants to go through life with their eyes closed to the needs of other?
